Ivan Kisegerwa joined us at Trey Junior School for a day of mentorship, encouragement and honest conversation with our pupils.
Speaking to the upper classes, Ivan shared his own journey, the obstacles he faced as a young person in Uganda, and the choices that shaped his path. The children listened closely to someone who had walked a road that looked very much like their own.
He challenged them to take their studies seriously, to respect their teachers and guardians, and to believe that where they start does not decide where they finish.
Pupils asked questions about careers, discipline and how to keep going when school fees are uncertain. Several told their teachers afterwards that they had begun thinking seriously about becoming doctors, engineers and teachers.
We thank Ivan for giving his time and for reminding our children that they are seen, valued and capable of far more than their circumstances suggest.
